1. Focal Length
The standard Kit lens on most Sony's is a 24-70mm. Adding this monster to your arsenal of glass, not only adds to your focal length, but it allows you to take some tight shots in a crowd. If you have room to move around, you won't even need to take this lens off, since the 70mm is an acceptable length for standard shots.

2. Affordable
Hear me out people. I know this lens retails for $1400 NEW, but guess how much I was able to get mine for? $800! Yes, for the casual shooter, it might be a lump sum of money, but if you really want to maximize the quality of your images, you need to invest in the glass. Check your local Craigslist ads or other used retailers for sales.
3. Build Quality/Look
The 70-200 feels substantial in the hands. But the surprising thing is that it is relatively light. I once shot an entire event with this lens mounted on, and not once did I complain about it being too heavy. (I'm no He-Man, either) A lot of your clients will automatically give you the benefit of the doubt, since they are seeing you with a huge white lens. Trust me, it's an eye grabber and makes you look Professional.
